We welcome babies, young children and teenagers to our practice.
Enquire NowWe believe in a preventative approach to dentistry, which begins as soon as your child's teeth start coming through.
You should brush the teeth of your baby or young child until they are able to clean their teeth for themselves. This is to build up good habits from an early age and get them used to coming to the dentist on a regular basis.
As soon as your child’s baby teeth start coming through or before their first birthday, it’s time to introduce them to the idea of brushing their teeth and having annual dental check ups.
During their first appointment and beyond, we will ensure your child is as comfortable as possible. They are welcome to sit wherever they are most at ease. If they don’t open their mouth the first couple of visits, then that’s okay. It is beneficial simply to get them used to being in a clinical environment with the bright lights and masks.
This is the age where your child's adult teeth will be starting to come through. Gum disease in children is growing increasingly common, so the quicker it is treated the better.
It’s also an important time for us to start evaluating how their teeth are developing and whether we need to start planning for any orthodontics in the future.
All our health treatments are half the price of an adult. So if your child were to need a filling, it would cost £50.25 instead of £100.50.
As your child grows up, it is important that they begin to take responsibility for their own oral health.
With more freedom to eat what they like and later bedtimes, educating your children and supporting them to make healthy choices can give you more confidence they are maintaining their oral health. Our dental team can also start showing how to clean between teeth with a floss.
If your child plays contact sports, it might be ideal to get a mouthguard to protect their teeth against dental trauma.
We offer traditional fixed ‘train track’ braces for children with overcrowding, protrusion or overlapping of the teeth. These can be either metal or tooth-coloured for more discretion, as we know a lot of teenagers can feel self conscious about having braces.
Having aligned teeth can help improve speech, chewing, confidence and overall health. Our cases are referred to Dr. Ashley Davenport. Ashley qualified as a dentist in 1995 and most people who know him well know that dentistry is a passion for him. He has been associated with Stella Maris Dental for over 20 years now and is an expert in his field.
As soon as your child gets their first teeth, you should take them to the dentist so they become familiar with the experience.
It's beneficial to keep positive about your visit to the dentist so that your child does not become unduly anxious. We recommend bringing your partner or a grandparent to attend your appointment with you to help keep your child at ease.
